Message would not do it again. I had a relatively good stock transmission, but had to occasionally punt on 3-4 upshifts and 5-4 downshifts to avoid grinding. I considered a rebuild on the original transmission in addition to a new one. I did not consider a used transmission that had not been rebuilt – the one in it was about as good as a used transmission could be. The new transmission is better, but I am having similar issues going to 3rd now - I assume due to the workmanship on the ‘98 transmission. It is rare, and the transmission only has 2200 miles on it so I am hopeful it will improve with break-in. Since the Z is not a daily driver and I try to keep it as original as practical I think the rebuild would have been a better call (likely just as risky, slightly less expensive but with more downtime). The old transmission is in Winston-Salem in the crate the new one came in. It looks like you are less than 5 hours away – shoot me an e-amil if you are interested in it (its from a 91 TT and has 90,000 miles on it).
